These Terms of Service (“Terms”) are a binding agreement between you and Jed Ashford (“Macro Bee,” “we,” “us,” or “our”) governing your use of the Macro Bee website at https://macrobee.app and the Macro Bee apps for macOS, Windows, Android, and the web (collectively, the “Service”). By creating an account or using the Service, you agree to these Terms and to our Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.
1. Eligibility
You must be at least 16 years old (or the age of digital consent in your country, if higher) to use the Service. By using it, you represent that you meet this requirement and that the information you provide is accurate.
2. The Service
Macro Bee is a companion app for macro-photography focus stacking. It connects over Bluetooth to a compatible motorized macro rail — including the WeMacro rail — to control rail movement, computes suggested step size and depth of field from your lens and camera settings, runs automated stacks, and logs each run. An optional free account lets you sync your projects and run history across devices.
Macro Bee is independent and is not affiliated with, authorized, endorsed by, or sponsored by WeMacro or any rail manufacturer. “Works with the WeMacro rail” indicates hardware compatibility only.
3. Your account
- You are responsible for the accuracy of the information you provide.
- You are responsible for safeguarding your password and for all activity under your account. Notify us promptly at jedashford+macrobee@gmail.com if you suspect unauthorized use.
- You agree to accept the Terms and Privacy Policy when you create an account. We record which version you accepted.
4. Acceptable use
You agree not to:
- Use the Service in violation of any law or regulation;
- Attempt to gain unauthorized access to the Service, other users’ accounts, or our systems;
- Interfere with, disrupt, overload, or probe the Service or its infrastructure;
- Reverse engineer or tamper with the Service except to the extent that restriction is prohibited by applicable law;
- Use the Service to infringe or violate anyone else’s rights.
5. Hardware control and safety
Macro Bee controls physical, motorized equipment. You use it entirely at your own risk. Computed values such as step size, shot count, and depth of field are estimates to assist you — you are responsible for verifying them for your setup before and during a run.
- You are solely responsible for the safe setup, supervision, and operation of your rail, camera, lens, subject, and surroundings.
- Always supervise an active run and be ready to stop the rail. Set appropriate travel limits on your hardware.
- We are not responsible for any damage to cameras, lenses, rails, subjects, or other property, for missed or ruined shots, for lost data, or for any injury arising from your use of the Service or the equipment it controls.
6. Your content
You retain ownership of the projects, run logs, and other content you create (“Your Content”). You grant us a limited, non-exclusive license to store, process, and transmit Your Content solely to operate and provide the Service to you. You are responsible for Your Content and for keeping your own backups; you can export your run data (CSV) from the app at any time.
7. Third-party hardware and services
Macro rails and other hardware are manufactured and sold by third parties. We do not sell, warrant, support, or take responsibility for any hardware, and these Terms do not cover it. The Service relies on third-party providers (such as Fly.io for hosting and Brevo for email); your use of the Service may also be subject to those providers’ terms.
8. Intellectual property
The Service, including the Macro Bee software, website, name, and design, is owned by or licensed to us and is protected by intellectual property laws. Subject to these Terms, we grant you a limited, personal, non-transferable, revocable license to use the Service. These Terms grant you no rights in our trademarks or branding. “WeMacro” and any related marks belong to their respective owner.
9. Availability and changes
The Service is provided free of charge and on an “as available” basis. We may add, change, suspend, or discontinue all or part of the Service at any time, and we do not guarantee any level of availability or uptime.
10. Disclaimer of warranties
THE SERVICE IS PROVIDED “AS IS” AND “AS AVAILABLE,” WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, WHETHER EXPRESS, IMPLIED, OR STATUTORY, INCLUDING IMPLIED WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, TITLE, AND NON-INFRINGEMENT. WE DO NOT WARRANT THAT THE SERVICE WILL BE UNINTERRUPTED, ERROR-FREE, OR SECURE, OR THAT ANY COMPUTED VALUES IT PROVIDES WILL BE ACCURATE FOR YOUR EQUIPMENT OR PURPOSES.
11. Limitation of liability
TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, IN NO EVENT WILL JED ASHFORD BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, OR FOR ANY LOSS OF DATA, PROFITS, EQUIPMENT, OR IMAGES, ARISING OUT OF OR RELATING TO YOUR USE OF THE SERVICE, EVEN IF ADVISED OF THE POSSIBILITY OF SUCH DAMAGES. OUR TOTAL LIABILITY FOR ALL CLAIMS RELATING TO THE SERVICE WILL NOT EXCEED ONE HUNDRED U.S. DOLLARS (US$100). Some jurisdictions do not allow certain limitations, so some of the above may not apply to you.
12. Indemnification
You agree to indemnify and hold harmless Jed Ashford from any claims, damages, liabilities, and expenses (including reasonable legal fees) arising out of your use of the Service, Your Content, or your violation of these Terms or any law or third-party right.
13. Termination
You may stop using the Service and delete your account at any time. We may suspend or terminate your access if you violate these Terms or to protect the Service or other users. Provisions that by their nature should survive termination (including ownership, disclaimers, limitations of liability, and governing law) will survive.
14. Changes to these Terms
We may update these Terms from time to time. When we do, we will revise the “Last updated” date above and, for material changes, take reasonable steps to notify you. Your continued use of the Service after an update means you accept the revised Terms.
15. Governing law and disputes
These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of Utah, United States, without regard to its conflict-of-laws rules. You agree that the state and federal courts located in Utah will have exclusive jurisdiction over any dispute arising out of these Terms or the Service, and you consent to their venue. Before filing a claim, you agree to first contact us at jedashford+macrobee@gmail.com to try to resolve the matter informally.
16. Miscellaneous
These Terms, together with our Privacy Policy, are the entire agreement between you and us regarding the Service. If any provision is found unenforceable, the rest remains in effect. Our failure to enforce a provision is not a waiver. You may not assign these Terms; we may assign them in connection with a transfer of the Service.
